Wow. Busy days. It seemed just yesterday I was sitting my butt - wondering what I was going to do with my life, all the while feeling somewhat of a useless blob for not really going anywhere with it. Today, though, different story almost entirely.
Let's begin at square one. It started with my enrollment into Mount Royal College, in a fast-track, non-credit Web Design program they host out of their downtown campus. It's continued education, so it's not really that demanding or difficult at it's core. That doesn't subtract anything from the extreme amount of fatigue I feel for having a normally two year degree crammed, at hyper speed, into my skull in a matter of two and a half months. I'm not complaining, though. It's great fun to feel so busy, and for once it really feel rewarding getting up knowing that the day actually accounts for something and won't be exactly the same as the one before it. Anyways, my time at school has naturally landed me a few friendships with the people I attend class with daily. This, in itself, has been rewarding - as many of them have lots and lots of experience in the business world and already know what ticks and what tocks, so to speak. Even better is that a few of us plan on forming up a web design company when this is all said and done. We haven't quite hammered out the details yet, but it's coming along smoothly, and every week, we are evolving into different specialties.
Beyond that, I also have about four of five 'favour' sites I have promised people in order to build up my portfolio. Good thing, too, because all of my instructors agree. In the real world, it doesn't matter how much you've been taught if you can't prove you know what you know.
This is made even better by the fact that all of the people looking to have websites created are all from different industries and companies, which will make for a broader display of what I can accomplish. This comes on the contrary of one of my instructors, though, who says the best advice he can give anyone up-and-coming in this biz, is to stay specialized and focused in one particular field of web design - such as car dealerships, or media franchises. All I know, is that it feels good to know that what I'm doing will account to something, and that that something is my future.
Where ever the chips may land, says I.
